Missourians will be voting next year on when they want to vote.
A constitutional amendment will authorize early voting and will authorize enactment of a law requiring voters to produce a government-issued photo-ID card.
The early voting system would let people vote early for nine days up to a week before the election, then shift to the regular absentee procedure for the last week before election day.
Backers say early voting eliminates the need to lie about why a voter won’t be voting on election day.
But opponent Chuck Purgason of Caulfield argues early voting makes it easier to turn out voters who don’t know what they’re voting on
The constitutional amendment is headed to next year’s ballot. The enabling legislation still has some opposition to overcome before it can become law.
