State Rep. Jean Peters-Baker, a Democrat from Kansas City, has resigned her office to become the new prosecutor for Jackson County.

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders appointed Peters-Baker Jackson County Prosecutor. She replaces Jim Kanatzar, who has been sworn in as a judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit. Peters-Baker ends her tenure as a state lawmaker before completing her first session. She won election to the House in November. The session ends Friday, May 13th, at 6pm.

Peters-Baker served in a variety of positions in the Jackson County prosecutor’s office, beginning in December of 1996. Her term as prosecutor ends December 31st of next year.
