Southeast Missouri’s Lake Wappapello is overflowing after reaching its greatest height in more than 65 years.

The Army Corps of Engineers says more than 30,000 cubic feet of water is being released through the dam gate every second. The Corps says the water pouring down the spillway is not damaging the dam but it has destroyed a road across the spillway. People and communities below the dam, along the Francis River, have been alerted to the high water.
