The House and Senate start open negotiations this evening for a new congressional district map. The two sides publicly have been throwing barbs at one another for several days about the differing maps that each has adopted.

The legislature could meet tomorrow to approve the compromise map. The unusual Friday session is needed if a map is to be approved on a schedule that would give lawmakers time to override a gubernatorial veto before the end of the session May 13th — if there is a veto.
