Wilson Betemit hit a solo home run and drove in two runs and Alex Gordon drove in a pair of runs as rain shortened a 5-1 win for the Royals over visiting Seattle on Thursday night. The game was called after the top of the 8th inning.

Bruce Chen continued his mastery over Seattle, moving to 4-0 lifetime against the M’s. Chen gave up an unearned run in the 8th inning, but has gone 14 innings without allowing an earned run against the Mariners.

Chen allowed six hits and battled through some back spasms after jumping high for a bouncer hit by Ichiro. He received treatment on his back after picking up his 50th career win.

The Royals scored three in the third on a two run double by Alex Gordon, who then scored on Billy Butler’s single. Betemit’s solo shot in the fourth off starter Doug Fister made it 4-0. Betemit picked up his second RBI on a sac fly in the sixth.
