The State Circuit Courts Budget Committee is considering closing a half-dozen juvenile detention facilities that aren’t used very much and firing 64 workers.
The six facilities hold an average four or fewer juveniles each day. They’re in Warrensburg, Sedalia, Cape Girardeau, Union, Bolivar, and Poplar Bluff. The closings are estimated to save the state $2.7 million a year.
