St. Charles County has become the first county in Missouri to ban the sale and possession of “bath salts,” an item sold in convenience stores and head shops that people are using to get high.

The county council ordinance also prohibits synthetic marijuana products like K-2, which was banned a year ago.

Police in St. Peters, a city in St. Charles County, are investigating whether bath salts led to the death of an O’ Fallon man who died last month.
