A Cape Girardeau man in jail for allegedly killing his 7-week-old son needs a new attorney before going to trial. Allen Walker Junior, 22, was arrested Aug. 24 for assault after Cape Police responded to St. Francis Medical Center two days earlier for a child who had multiple injuries.

The baby was taken to Saint Louis Children’s Hospital, where physicians noted two skull fractures, broken ribs, leg fracture, and brain bleed. The child died four days later, prompting an a 2nd degree murder charge against Walker, who pleaded not guilty in October.

His trial was slated to begin last month in Jackson, but his attorney dropped from the case. He was assigned a public defender. An April 25 hearing will set a trial date. The jury will be brought in from Scott County.
