Kansas City is outpacing St. Louis in Hispanic populations.

Demographers say the surge in the number of Hispanics, combined with geographic advantages over St. Louis that the much larger Kansas City has, allowed the city to grow over the last 10 years while St. Louis lost population.

Hispanics now make up 10 percent of Kansas City’s nearly half-million residents.

The Hispanic population in St. Louis is about 3.5 percent.

Nationwide, Hispanics represent 16 percent of the population.
