One of Missouri’s oldest railroads that is still under original ownership is shutting down. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the owners of the Manufacturers Railway Company have told federal regulators it plans to abandon service on its 13-mile line from the Anheuser-Busch brewery to a distribution center in Illinois.

The brewery says it lost $700,000 on the line last year and expects to lose twice that much this year. The railroad was started in 1887 when Adolphus Busch started using trains to ship company products and bring in supplies.
