The FBI is looking for a code-breaker to help solve a 12-year-old St. Charles County murder case. Two coded notes found in the shirt of a decomposed body in 1999 remain a mystery, but the FBI hopes somebody can crack it.
Columbia man might be headed to prison … again
A Columbia man who once did 18 years in prison for murder might be headed back to prison for another parole violation. The Highway Patrol has picked up John R. Abercrombie for drunk driving.
Abercrombie was released from prison on the murder conviction in 1982 but was sent back in 1985 for a parole violation. He was released in 1987 and sent back on a second parole violation two years later. Until his DWI arrest Sunday, he had stayed out of trouble since he was released from prison in 2003.
How high is the water, mama?
Spring flood season has eased its way into Missouri. The Mississippi river has sneaked over flood stage at Hannibal. The National Weather Service expects the rest almost two feet above bankful next Monday at Hannibal and warns of the most significant floods on the upper Mississippi since 2004.
Teacher dress code in the Cape?
The Scott City School board, which established a dress code for students in January, now has set one for teachers, too. Teachers have to wear dress pants or skirts of appropriate length and professional or business-like attire on top. The board president tells the Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian there had been occasions when teachers have worn outfits that would “draw a young man’s attention.”
Powerball jumps to $187M
The big numbers didn’t come up for anybody in last night’s Powerball drawing. The jackpot jumps by more than $30 million for Saturday’s drawing, and now stands at about $187 million. The lump sum payout would be about $95 million.
