Missouri Western State University wants to hike tuition by 9.5 percent next year and wants to increase room and board costs by three percent.
The coordinating board for higher education will have to approve the tuition hike because it’s above the percentage set by the legislature, which has tied tuition increases to the consumer price index.
The commissioner of higher education already has granted the University of Missouri system’s increase, that’s higher than the CIP calculation.
