Five Missouri schools started out in the men’s NAIA national tournament in Kansas City. We’re down to two. 15th ranked Evangel won last night and plays it’s second round game against #2 Concordia California at 2:15 on Friday. Unranked Lindenwood University plays #3 Mountain State West Virginia after that. On the women’s side only Williams Woods of Fulton remains out of four teams. They’ll play at 4:30 in the second round against Westminster Utah which is being played in Jackson, TN.

Junior guard Mitch McHenry came off the bench to score 17 second half points, as Evangel University (Mo.) advanced to the second round of the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship with a 79-71 win over unseeded Xavier University (La.) Thursday at Municipal Auditorium.

McHenry scored 16 straight second-half points for the Crusaders, as Evangel improves 26-8 overall and earn their first win in national tournament play.

Senior guard Spud Harbour joined McHenry in double figures with a game-high 27 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and a 10-of-11 effort from the foul stripe, while senior forward Chad Gillaspy chipped in 15 points.
