Two priests have been accused in a lawsuit of molesting a boy more than 20 years ago after the boy was caught chewing gum at school. The lawsuit charges the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocese did nothing to stop the abuse.
The diocese says one of priests left the priesthood in 1989 and has been named in several other lawsuits. The diocese says it has resolved a half-dozen suits against him.
The second priest named was fired last month from a position with the diocese in Scranton, Pa., and was removed from the ministry.
