Royals’ closing pitcher Joakim Soria is looking for a new nickname. The native of Monclavo, Mexico would like to see his nickname “The Mexicutioner” go away. A couple of years ago, it was a cute play on words, because when hitters faced Soria in the ninth inning they were dead.
But given the recent violence in his home country, Soria would like to see something a little more positive or just have people call him Joakim. “I know nicknames are just for fun, but I’m hoping Mexico can return to the peaceful place it was before. I don’t want to add more negativity to my country when it is looking for positives.”
Soria even went to his twitter account to say that he was ready for something different. “how about if we change my nickname to something positive? in support to mexico to stop all the violence !!!”
