The Department of Transportation says as of noon Thursday, its road crews are making their ways to secondary routes. Spokesman Sally Oxenhandler says drivers should do the exact opposite and use the main highways, that are now mostly clear.

“The folks need to use the major routes as best they can because those are the ones that we’ve worked on the hardest so far and are the most clear. So that would be a good idea, if they can get to those more major routes, and use those. We are now turning our attention to the minor routes and trying to get those clear as well. Most of them are open and passable, it’s just getting them in good shape,” Oxenhandler said.

Oxenhandler says Missourians should still check MODOT’s traveler information map to see the road conditions for their route before they head out.
