Sgt. Pharris laid to rest at Arlington

Missouri National Guard Sergeant Robert Pharris is being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington today. At the same time, a small group of Guardsmen who he trained have returned home today. At their arrival ceremony today, the four  members of the 135th Military History Detachment made sure to honor Pharris by asking for a moment of silence.

Major Donald Lathan explains his 4-member unit had a connection to Pharris.

“He was our trainer before we left. We trained with him over at Nevada, Camp Clark. He was a wonderful person, great guy, did a lot for as a unit; really helped prepare us to deploy. It was very hard when we found out that he passed… He was a great man, has a great family, and he’s a patriot,” Lathan said. [Read more...]

St. Louis Parkway coach charged with having sex with underage girl

For a second time in a week, a coach in the St. Louis Parkway school system has been charged with having sex with an underage girl. The new charges are against a former girls basketball coach at Parkway Central High School, Brent Woody, has been indicted by a grand jury. Those charges replace 15 charges of rape and sodomy filed against Woody in July.

Earlier this week, a former wrestling coach at Parkway West High School was charged with 11 crimes because of his reported involvement with a girl student.

KC city government loses in court, yet again

Kansas City has lost another discrimination lawsuit filed by former employees. A judge says two ex-budget analysts deserve more than $2.6 million. Earlier in the week, the Missouri Supreme Court upheld a $3 million judgment for a former municipal judge candidate.

Leader of the KC Chiefs band dead at age 98

The man who led the pep band at Kansas City Chiefs games for more than four decades has died at the age of 98. When Tony DiPardo began leading the T-D Pack Band, the Chiefs were still playing in the old Municipal Stadium. That was 1963. He stepped aside for a few years in the early 80s but returned when his daughter became the band director in’ 89.

DiPardo was born in St. Louis and started playing the cornet when he was nine.

Drunk in fatal car crash pleads guilty

A Kansas City man who was drunk and had been driving more than 150-miles an hour when he caused a fatal traffic crash has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault. The car driven by John McNamara rear-ended the car of a young woman on Interstate 29 in Platte County, killing the woman. McNamara’s blood-alcohol was more than double the legal limit.
