The Missouri-made movie “Winter’s Bone” has been nominated for four Academy Awards. But the competition is stiff. It’s one of ten films nominated for Best Picture.

Lead actress Jennifer Lawrence is up for the Best Actress Oscar along with Annette Benning, Nicole Kidnam, Natalie Portman, and Michelle Williams. John Hawkes is up for best supporting actor along with Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Geoffrey Rush. The movie also is competing for the Best Screenplay adapted from another medium. Others in that category are 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story3, and True Grit.

We’ll learn Feb. 27 if Missouri has any winners. The Oscars air on ABC.

Forsyth Schools Superintendent Brent Blevins says all of Taney County is abuzz with excitement. Portions of the movie were shot at Forsyth Middle School, with

one student and two teachers having roles in the picture.
