The Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers selected Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli as the NFL Executive of the Year. For Pioli, it is the fifth time of his career (third time by the PFWA) following a worst to first turnaround in his second season guiding the Chiefs front office. Pioli previously won the award in 2003 and 2007.

Some of Pioli’s highlights, which included a good draft class, were the signing of free agents like running back Thomas Jones, center Casey Wiegmann, guard Ryan Lilja and defensive lineman Shaun Smith.

Jamaal Charles was one of two running backs selected to the PFW/PFWA All-NFL Team, joining Houston’s Arian Foster on the list. The two runners finished the season first and second in the NFL’s rushing race this season. Charles who finished with 1,467 yards and a league-best 6.4-yard average.

Rookie safety Eric Berry earned PFW All-Rookie Team honors. Berry led the Chiefs with four interceptions and ranked second in total tackles with 126
