Illinois transportation officials have closed a Mississippi river bridge that links Bird Point, Mo., in Mississippi County to Cairo, Ill. Repairs are likely to take the rest of the year.
The bridge carries about 3,500 vehicles a day. The bridge is more than 80 years old. About 25 ofits 108 deck beams have significant rust or deterioration problems.
