Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, who many pick as the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL draft, announced he will stay in school and play his redshirt junior season. Could this move Blaine Gabbert up to possibly the number one spot?

In a statement late Thursday, Luck said, “I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012.”  His father, former NFL quarterback Oliver Luck, said: “This is a win-win for him. He gets to spend another year at Stanford, be part of team that will be highly ranked again next year, finish his degree and enjoy Palo Alto. It’s not like the NFL is going anywhere.”

The Carolina Panthers who have that first pick in the NFL draft indicated they would be interested in drafting Luck if he decided to leave school. I know the one person who woke the happiest person in the sporting world today…Blaine Gabbert.  The former Mizzou quarterback has been projected as a top 10 pick already, a potential move up to the number one slot would also bump up his signing bonus.
