This is the day we start calling him FORMER Senator Christopher Bond. It’s been a long time since he was a practicing lawyer. But he’s becoming one with St. Louis’ biggest law firm, Thompson-Coburn, whose chairman, Tom Minogue, says Bond mostly will work out of the firm’s Washington office.
Bond says he has homes in Washington as well as in his hometown of Mexico, Missouri and he’ll be in both frequently.
Thompson-Coburn hired Bond’s predecessor in the Senate, Thomas Eagleton, when Eagleton left Washington. Minogue acknowledges Bond is being added as a prestigious staff consultant whose presence will attract new business—-a “rainmaker” in other words. He’ll focus on areas in which he has specialized as a two-term governor and a four-term United States Senator–job creation, international trade, cyber security issues, and transportation.
Although he’ll do most of his work from the Washington office, Bond won’t be doing any lobbying. Federal law says Bond can’t lobby for two years. He says he can talk informally to former colleagues, but nothing beyond that.
