Evangelist Larry Rice: Cape Girardeau ‘prejudiced against homeless’

Evangelist Larry Rice is ending his effort to turn the former federal courthouse in Cape Girardeau into a homeless shelter. But he’s not going quietly after losing his latest court fight to get the building. Rice says city leaders are prejudiced against the homeless.

Rice runs a New Life Homeless Outreach Center in Cape Girardeau. He wanted the courthouse so he could expand services. Cape Giradeau wants the building as a local courts building.

Lebanon tightens dangerous animal law

The new animal control ordinance in the city of Lebanon defines “dangerous animal.”

The old ordinance didn’t have that … The ordinance also says that any owner whose dog is determined to be dangerous will have three days to get rid of it.

Shelbina dog breeder’s license pulled

A Monroe County dog breeder has agreed to sell or give away her dogs and stay out of the business for five years.

The state agriculture department says Lisa Langer Young of Shelbina has been violating several deparmtent regulations. Young’s agreement is included in the settlement of a lawsuit filed by the Attorney General on behalf of the Department of Agriculture.

Missouri, Florida won’t increase minimum wage

Missouri is one of eight states that base their minimum wage on the consumer price index … and one of two that will not increase the amount this year.

Missouri’s minimum wage will stay at $7.25 an hour in 2011. Florida also is not increasing its minimum wage.

KC policeman kills man who charged him with metal pole

A Kansas City policeman has shot and killed a man who charged at him with a metal pole held over his head. Officers had been called to a vacant house by a neighbor who saw a couple of men break into it.
