Nicklas Lidstrom, a six-time Norris Trophy winner, scored three goals in a game for the first time in his NHL career on Wednesday night, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues.
Lidstrom finished with a four point night. He opened the scoring 4:02 into the second period, added a power-play goal 2:46 into the third and fired the third one into an empty net with 30 seconds remaining and assisted on a Wings’ power play goal at 17:38 of the second period.
Lidstrom got the Wings on the board, beating Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak on a knuckleball from the top of the left circle. Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo tied it 1:18 later by beating Jimmy Howard with a backhander. The Wings would score three goals (two on the power play) in a span of less than six minutes stretching from the second into the third period.
