The Missouri Ethics Commission has fined former state senate candidate Rodney Hubbard and his treasurer $350,000 for violating campaign spending laws. It’s believed to be the biggest fine in ethics commission history. Hubbard is a former state representative from St. Louis who lost a Democratic primary race in 2008.
The commission says Hubbard and campaign Treasurer Joy Camp failed to report $129,000 in campaign spending and another $86,000 in contributions. The commission investigation shows they often withdrew money at ATMs without documenting what they did with the funds.
If the pair pays $35,000 of the fine and don’t violate campaign finance laws for two years, the rest of the fine will be forgiven.
