Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said the team will know more on Wednesday. The quarterback himself, Matt Cassel, says he’s been told he’ll be re-evaluated everyday. However, after watching Sunday’s debacle against San Diego from home while recovery from his appendectomy, Cassel showed up for work on Monday ready to put in all the mental preparation needed as though he will go Sunday against the Rams.

Never would I have thought this game at the dome in St. Louis would have had playoff implications riding for both teams. It becomes a must win situation for the Rams as well as the Chiefs.

I’m sure the Rams are hoping that Cassel needs one more week to recover after watching Brodie Croyle’s pathetic attempt at leading the Chiefs in a 31-0 loss at San Diego. The Rams are 6-7, tied with Seattle who has to host Atlanta, the best team in the NFC. A win over the Chiefs would afford the Rams a chance to move to 7-7 and perhaps gain a game on the Seahawks.

The Chiefs, who would lose a tiebreaker with San Diego for the division, have just a one game lead over the Chargers who host San Francisco this Thursday night. If the 49ers were to somehow win at San Diego, maybe it would make the decision easier to rest Cassel one more week so he can prepare for two final home games against Tennessee and Oakland. If the Chargers win, then the Chiefs may look to a less than 100% Cassel…which at this point would be a much better option than Croyle.
