Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday. While the team said the surgery was a success, they would not say whether or not he would play Sunday when the 8-4 Chiefs head to San Diego.

Cassel is listed as questionable. Some sources are saying the team thinks it’s a 50-50 shot of him playing. If that is the case, he will most likely have no practice reps or any more work done before Sunday. I was researching appendectomy recovery times can vary between 1-3 weeks for simple procedures. Given Cassel is an athlete, I would expect that number to be closer to a week if not sooner.

So, it was backup Brodie Croyle who took most of the snaps at practice. Croyle is 0-9 as an NFL starter and has not played at all this year.
