University of Missouri junior TE Michael Egnew (Plainview, Texas) has been named one of three finalists for the 2010 John Mackey Award, as announced today by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The award goes to the nation’s top collegiate tight end, with the winner.

Egnew leads all of the nation’s tight ends with 78 receptions, and his 663 receiving yards is also most among all Mackey finalists (by more than 100 yards), with those figures coming against the nation’s 7th-toughest schedule, according to the NCAA. Egnew’s signature game was a 13-catch, 145-yard performance against San Diego State, and he’s also had double-digit outings against Illinois (10 catches, 60 yards, 1 TD) and at Texas A&M (10-87). Egnew also had a two-touchdown game against Colorado, when he had six catches for 52 yards in all, and he’s coming off an outstanding effort at Iowa State, as he caught a game-high 7 passes for 77 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter to help Mizzou claim a 14-0 win in Ames last Saturday.

Egnew is the latest in a line of standout tight ends at Mizzou, as he is following in the footsteps of 2008 Mackey Award winner and consensus 1st-Team All-American Chase Coffman, as well as 2007 Mackey Award finalist and consensus 1st-Team All-American Martin Rucker.
