Another close finish for Wainwright in the Cy Young voting

Roy Halladay of the Phillies was the unanimous choice for National League Cy Young which gets voted on right after the season. He then went out and pitched a no-hitter against Cincinnati in the Divisional Series the Phillies won. Coming in second for the second year in a row was Adam Wainwright.

Now, no doubt Halladay deserved it, but I’ll take a second place finisher in my starting rotation any day. So, for 2011, the Cardinals will have Carpenter, the Cy Young runner up, the third place finisher in the Rookie of the Year voting (Jaime Garcia) and now 33 year old Jakes Westbrook.

Westbrook agreed to a two year contract. The Cardinals got him on July 31st and he went 4-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 12 starts for St. Louis. The 33 year old is 73-75 lifetime and was an all-star in 2004. He spent all but two games of his career with Cleveland after starting with the Yankees.
