The only man arrested in last summer’s $9 million holdup in St. Louis remains at large, after escaping from jail. John Wesley Jones and another inmate broke out Monday from the Lincoln County jail in Troy and appear to have been gone four hours before anybody noticed them missing.

A spokesman for the US Marshal’s Service says investigators believe the two remain in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

More than $1 million was found in Jones’ car when he was arrested in St. Louis after the ATM Solutions robbery. Authorities say Jones and fellow inmate Corey Durand Cross apparently stole a rental truck from a gas station in Moscow Mills, a short distance from the jail. The truck has been found in St. Louis.

It appears Cross and Jones climbed to the roof of the jail early Monday morning after the nightly head count, somehow climbed down 30 feet and escaped. Jailers didn’t realize the two had escaped until breakfast.
