A junior at Lafayette High School in St Joseph has been killed after being struck by a school bus shortly after 7:30 this morning. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Mason Adams of St Joseph.

“We have sent extra counselors to Lafayette High School and will give students an opportunity to talk to folks both in small groups and individually. This was a wonderful young man, a model student. He made good grades, he was in honors courses. He was an athlete, baseball player and just an outstanding young man. So there are a lot of lives that he touched and a lot of those folks are going to want to talk about this as they start to work through the process of grieving,” said Steve Huff with the St. Joseph School District.

Police say it’s too early to tell if there was any wrongdoing on the part of the bus driver. He says Adams was in a crosswalk when the bus pulled out to turn left onto the street, striking and killing him.
