Things can change quickly in the National Hockey League. The Blues were enjoying their best start in franchise history after 12 games with a 9-1-2 record, but had it handed to them on Wednesday night losing in Columbus to the Blue Jackets, 8-1.
The loss snapped the Blues seven game win streak and saw goalie Jaroslav Halak pulled after the first 24 minutes of the game when he allowed four goals. Halak came into the game with shut outs in three of his last four games. Ty Conklin, who shut out the New York Rangers on Sunday, also gave up four goals. This was against a Blue Jackets team that was scoring less than 2.5 goals per game
In a third period, play was getting choppy with a couple of fights, big hits and penalties, the Blues suffered a tough blow when forward T.J. Oshie suffered a broken left ankle. He will be out indefinitely. The injury occured midway through the third period when Columbus forward Samuel Pahlsson fell on Oshie during a scrap.Â
As I said, things can turn around fast in the NHL and the Blues don’t have much time to sulk after this tough loss. They host the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
