Local elections officials are geting ready for the evening rush-hour load of voters.  Anecdotal reports say voting was heavy during the morning rush hour…No major problems have cropped up, says the Secretary of State’s office, although the state voter registration database has been inaccessible to local authorities.

Spokesman Laura Egerdal says local election authorities have not been able to get into the database to check registrations of people who are not on the rolls at a local polling place.  But she says other sources have registration information.  She says the office’s polling place lookup file has been available without interruption.  Egerdal says that has helped voters get to the right polling place if they go to the wrong one.

Egerdal says the absentee vote count might be down this year by a couple of thousand from 2008. But she attributes that decline, at least partly, to fewer Missouri National Guard members being stationed overseas.

This was the first time many of those voters could use the internet to obtain their absentee ballots.
