Father of murder victim going to prison

A central Missouri man with a previous felony record has been sentenced to almost 20 years in prison for illegally possessing firearms; 29 of them. Dale Scott Olten Senior of Russellville will not be eligible for parole. Olten admits 17 of the weapons had been stolen.

His son was sentenced to three years in prison earlier this year for possessing stolen firearms. The daughter of Olten Senior, Elizabeth, is the nine year old girl who was murdered last year. A 16-year-old neighbor is charged with her killing.

Officer admits to FBI he lied about sex at police department

Former LaPlata police officer Ryan Slaughter admits he lied to the FBI about having sexual relations at the police department with a woman he had picked up for suspected drunk driving. He had told the FBI he was not on duty when they had sex and said he had released the woman from custody before the activity.

Slaughter faces five years in prison.

Ellisville businessman convicted of human trafficking

Ellisville businessman Kristin Dougherty has been convicted of human trafficking. The federal prosecutor had accused Dougherty of running a labor leasing firm that got some of its workers through a group of people from Uzbekistan who are accused of coercing foreign workers to work for little or no pay.

Dougherty has been convicted of racketeering, conspiracy, and wire fraud

Life in Ohio…now life in Missouri

A man serving a life prison term in Ohio for a fatal stabbing has been sentenced to a life term in Missouri for killing a truck driver in Platte County two years ago.

John Hughes’ girlfriend is to go on trial next month for murder and robbery. The prosecutor says she and Hughes killed Springfield trucker Valentin Kirilchuk at a rest stop during a robbery.

Clay County presiding commissioner sues opponent

Clay County’s presiding commissioner is suing his political opponent for libel and slander because of one of her campaign commercials.

Commissioner Ed Quick says a claim in Pam Mason’s commercial that he had done hard prison time for robbery and burglary is “crazy.”

Mason’s commercial uses 56-year-old documents that list Quick’s name in a complaint but do not show him convicted of anything or doing any prison time. He wants $1 million in damages.
