The founder of the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation has died at his home in Richmond Heights.

Earl Wilson Junior was 78. His family says he suffered from pancreatic cancer.

Wilson established the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation in 1993, hosting an annual football game between two black college teams under the dome in St. Louis. The money raised through that game and various other projects provided 2-point-8 Million dollars in scholarships to send 120 African-American students to college.
