Word that some significant changes are being made at the nation’s most important military cemetery is good news to Senator McCaskill, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The Secretary of the Army has appointed the former director of field programs for the Veterans Adminsitration as the new superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery. lAnd the entire staff of the cemetery is going to enroll in the jVA’s National Cemetery Adminsitration Training Center.
It’s been moths since the previous adminsitrator was forced out after a series of burial mistakes was discovered.in two or three parts of the cemetery.
Senator McCaskill says the changes are a sign of progress. But she says months of work are still ahead. She says investigators continue to find questionable records about burials.
She says that’s why it’s important to go through all 71 sections of the cemetgery. McCaskill would llike to see the entire day to day operation of Arlington turned over to the VA, with the Army still handling ceremonial activities.
