The girls state golf championships wrapped up yesterday in Springfield at Rivercut Golf Course and Twin Oaks Country Club after two rounds on Monday and Tuesday. In Class 2, the event was held at Twin Oaks where Joni Cathleen Purvis of Camdenton overcame a four shot deficit on Tuesday to win the individual event with a 148 after shooting back to back 74s.

Purvis held off Meghan Mueller of Rock Bridge Columbia by three strokes and a pair of Notre Dame de Sion golfers, Mary Frances Reintjes and Brian Marie Bondon who finished with 153 and 154 respectively. Reintjes shot an opening round 70. Their top individual finishes helped their school run away with the team title by 59 strokes over Ursuline Academy.

In Class 1, Caroline Frances Rouse of MICDS was one of just two golfers to shoot in the 70’s on Monday and she followed that up with a 77 to win the individual title by five strokes over Haelena Allyson Schwemmer of Westminster Christian Academy. Despite Rouse’s title, MICDS finished second in team scoring 15 strokes behind Villa Duchesne High School.
