Parents of a 15-year-old Carthage girl killed in a traffic crash four years ago have won their lawsuit against the driver of the car she was riding in. The company that had insured Jarub Baird will give Andy and Debbie Smallwood $50,000.
Baird is in prison for seven years for manslaughter and assault charges resulting from the crash. He was 17 when his speeding car sheared off a telephone pole and rolled over several times in a farm field near Carthage.
Hannah Smallwood was killed and three other teenagers in the car were hurt.
A former Clayton doctor admits he lied to federal investigators about his Medicare billings. Howard Goldstein had earlier settled a civil lawsuit with the government by agreeing to $830,000 in restitution. His former employer, SSM St. Charles Medical Group, is paying $865,000 dollars in restitution.
Goldstein will be sentenced later on his criminal charge.
