Albert Pujols had two hits and reached base three times and picked up his NL-leading 118th RBI in the first inning as the Cardinals beat Colorado 6-1. Chris Carpenter pitched a complete game four hitter to finish his season 16-9.

Pujols passed Carlos Gonzalez of Colorado who did not play in the this game, for the RBI title with three games to play. Pujols’ RBI was his 21st game winning RBI, leading all of the majors. Chris Carpenter ended his season on a strong note.

Carpenter threw his first complete game of the season snapping a four game losing streak with an ERA over seven in that stretch. He was looking good against a Rockies team that has lost 10 of their last 11.

Matt Pagnozzi had two hits with two RBIs and Brendan Ryan had two hits and a run driven in as well as a great play in the ninth where he slid into the grass just past second base, whirled and fired to get a guy out at first.
