There will be no shot at 21 wins for the Cardinals ace, Adam Wainwright. After pitching with tightness and some minor pain in his right elbow on Friday, the team and Wainwright have decided to shut it down for the remainder of the 2010 season with a forearm muscle strain.

In that Friday game, Wainwright gutted out his 20th win at Chicago and will finish the season 20-11 with a 2.42 ERA in 33 starts. Despite sitting out Thursday’s game with Colorado, Wainwright still has to be considered a front runner for the Cy Young Award.

He’s second in the NL in wins, ERA and innings pitched. While his 213 strikeouts are good for third best in the league, it is a career best for him.

Jay Bruce hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cincinnati Reds a 3-2 win over the Houston Astros to clinch their first Central Division title in 15 years. It wouldn’t have mattered if the Reds lost that close game because the Cardinals got drubbed by the Pirates 7-2.

Ka’aihue helps Royals hang 10 on Twins

Leave it to a Hawaiian to help hang 10 on the Central Division champs.  Kila Ka’aihue hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Royals scored 10 runs for the second consecutive game against the Twins with a 10-1 victory on Tuesday night.

Ka’aihue hit a three run homer in the first off Twins’ starter Nick Blackburn, then followed that up with his seventh of the season in the second to lead off that inning. It was his first multi-homer game of his career. Ka’aihue almost made it three homers in the seventh when he banged a shot off the fence, but ended up with a triple.

The Twins have lost five straight since clinching the AL Central.
