Mizzou suspends Simmons indefinitely, Prince quits football

Jasper Simmons

The Missouri football program has indefinitely suspended safety Jasper Simmons. While the reasons were not given by the athletic department, they are not related to legal troubles. The team also announced that defensive back Munir Prince’s football career has ended as well.

Simmons had missed the past three games coming back from knee surgery after he got injured in the Illinois game. At the post-game press conference on Saturday following the win over Miami-Ohio, Gary Pinkel said he expected Simmons to be ready to go for the Big 12 opener against Colorado.

Munir Prince

Prince was hurt in the Tigers’ final scrimmage on August 26th during punt coverage drills when he was blocked by defensive end Marcus Marbrough. Prince lay still on the field for several minutes and suffered temporary loss of feeling and movement in his arms and legs.

Prince made a full recovery and should have no complications from the injury, but in a decision made by his parents and the MU medical staff, they felt it wasn’t a wise decision to continue to play. Prince, a St. Louis native, transferred from Notre Dame to come back to his home state.
