State government praised for use of technology

The National Center for Digital Government says Missouri is one of the top five states in the use of technology in government. The Center measures the use of digital technology to serve citizens and to streamline operations.

Only Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Virginia have gotten higher grades from the Center.

Roofing company manager pleads guilty to ripping it off

The former general manager of a Fenton roofing company has pleaded guilty to defrauding the company of $120,000. Federal court documents say Randy Gross created false invoices that the company paid and also had customers pay him personally instead of giving money to the company.

Big 12 announces 10-team football schedules

The Big 12 Conference office released schedules for the league for 2011 and beyond, refletcing a new nine-game league schedule that will begin next season, when Nebraska and Colorado bolt.

Mizzou’s 2011 schedule opens on Sept. 3rd with the second of two contracted home games with Miami (Ohio), with the return game of a two-for-one deal scheduled for 2012 in Oxford, Ohio. Following a Sept. 10 game at Arizona State, the Tigers are scheduled for a bye week on Sept. 17th. The final non-conference game is Sept. 24 against Western Illinois in Columbia, followed by conference play.

Chiefs briefs: Hali, Smith, and Weis (VIDEO)

The Kansas Chiefs’ Tamba Hali was selected the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after he sacked Alex Smith three times in the Chiefs’ 31-10 win over San Fran. Hali also hurried Smith three other times and finished with four total tackles, broke up a pass and forced a fourth-quarter fumble by Smith.

Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis missed Wednesday’s practice as he continues to recover from gall bladder surgery from Monday.

Defensive lineman Shaun Smith was accused for the second week in a row of grabbing an opponent’s crotch. Smith was first accused by a Cleveland offensive lineman and this past week against the 49ers, the accusations were flying again.

This time there is some video which is grainy and you can’t tell if Smith is grabbing or doing anything, but judging from the reaction of the 49er lineman, Smith must be doing something.

Bond pleas with Senate to halt tax increase (AUDIO)

Senator Bond says President Obama’s plan to let the Bush tax cuts expire is a job killer.

President Obama is asking Congress to let tax cuts put in place by the Bush administration expire, but only for those making $200,000 dollars or more or couples earning $250,000 or more.

Bond says the cuts need to stay in place across the board.

Bond says $200,000 is a threshold of earnings many small businesses claim, and if small business owners and farmers have to pay more taxes, they’ll hire fewer people. [Read more...]
