There will be no shot at 21 wins for the Cardinals ace, Adam Wainwright. After pitching with tightness and some minor pain in his right elbow on Friday, the team and Wainwright have decided to shut it down for the remainder of the 2010 season with a forearm muscle strain.

In that Friday game, Wainwright gutted out his 20th win at Chicago and will finish the season 20-11 with a 2.42 ERA in 33 starts. Despite sitting out Thursday’s game with Colorado, Wainwright still has to be considered a front runner for the Cy Young Award.

He’s second in the NL in wins, ERA and innings pitched. While his 213 strikeouts are good for third best in the league, it is a career best for him.
