Two men have been sentenced to life in prison, convicted in a murder-for-hire scheme.

The federal prosecutor in St. Louis says that James K. Kornhardt and Steven A. Mueller had been convicted in June of killing Danny Harold Coleman on October 22nd, 1992. Coleman’s wife, Karen Coleman, began in 1990 to discuss the possibility of arranging to have her husband killed with prison inmate Larry Nolan. She wanted to cash in an insurance policy. Nolan recruited Kornhardt, a Mehlville firefighter, who recruited Mueller. They killed Coleman in St. Louis. Authorities later found his abandoned and burnt truck in an isolated filed in Franklin County.

Karen Coleman paid the two from the insurance proceeds. She confessed to the scheme in June and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
