Kyle Lohse entered Wednesday night’s game with a 5-0 record against the Pirates and their starter Charlie Morton hasn’t won a game in four in a half months. The 1-11 pitcher tossed six innings allowing two runs while he let the Pittsburgh offense do the rest in an 11-6 lost for the Cardinals that left their number to elimination down to the three.

Lohse lasted just three innings giving up six runs. “Six runs in three innings I think explains it,” Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. “I don’t know how to define it better than that.”

I joked during my afternoon sports report prior to the game that surely the Cardinals could be a guy who is 1-11. Morton’s ERA coming into September was over 10, the worst in modern day baseball, yet the Cardinals managed just four hits and walk off Morton while he struck out five.
