Dr. Arnold Stephen Barber is charged with two counts of tampering … in the case involving former Kirksville attorney Thomas Oswald.

In May, it was announced in court that Dr. Barber had suffered a second stroke. Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson in August requested an independent medical exam for Barber. In that motion, Wilson said the state had received information that Dr. Barber has maintained his license to practice dentistry, had begun seeing patients and had conversations with employees and dentists. A hearing on Wilson’s motion was scheduled for this week:

Wilson says Scotland County Judge Karl DeMarce has scheduled the trial for Feb. 9 in Adair County Circuit Court.

The 71-year-old Barber says he expects to be exonerated, if the case goes to trial.

The 83-year-old Oswald pleaded guilty to statutory sodomy in October and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
