If you’ve been to any type of a ball game, you know about the Kiss Cam. It happens in between innings at a Royals or Cardinals game, even during timeouts at Mizzou basketball games…up on the big scoreboard screen, it will show a guy and girl and everyone waits for them to kiss. Now, gay activists in St. Louis want some face time on the Kiss Cam at Saturday’s Cardinals game.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, there will be at least 200 gays and lesbians at Busch Stadium hoping to raise awareness for gay rights. The nonprofit group, St. Louis Pride, has helped organize this event that they have called “Out at the Ballpark.”
I also read in the Kansas City Star that Ethan Barnett, director of athletics for Pride St. Louis, said this would be a perfect opportunity to bring awareness to the group by tying their outing into a Kiss Cam appearance.
Officials with the St. Louis Cardinals say it is difficult to plan who gets selected for the Kiss Cam. They tend to look for areas where fans are paying attention to the scoreboard and are in “lively” areas of the ballpark. The operators of the Kiss Cam promotion have just a minute and a half in between innings to put this together and the biggest challenge they have is the risk of picking two people not who are not together. The Cardinals could make no promises.
