Royals starting pitcher Bruce Chen picked up his 10th win of the season after getting long ball support after a shaky start. The Royals beat the A’s 6-3 to take two of three in this series.

Chen has struggled early, but one thing he shown in some of those starts is that he settles down and finds a nice groove and that was the case in Wednesday night’s game. Chen gave up two runs in the first and a solo home run to Matt Carson in the third and trailed 3-0.

In the bottom of the third the Royals loaded the bases after a two out walk was issued to Billy Butler from A’s starter Trevor Cahill. In a nine pitch sequence, Wilson Betitmit hit his 12th homer of the year, sending a changeup 425 feet to right for a 4-3 lead.

Butler tacked on two more runs later in the fifth inning off Cahill. It was Butler’s 13th of the season. Joakim Soria closed out the game with his 38th save of the season.
