The Central Missouri Mules went toe to toe with Division I-FCS Illinois State, but a go-ahead two-point conversion with 2:22 left in the game gave the Redbirds a 55-54 victory. It was another game affected by lightning that started almost 2 1/2 late and was played in rain.

The Mules (1-1) offense shattered several school records that were set the week before, including 547 yards passing, six TD’s through the air, 40 completions and 62 attempts. It was also the most amount of points scored by a Mule team in a loss, and the most combined points by two teams in the modern era of UCM football with 109.

Quarterback Eric Czerniewski broke his own records from a week ago with 39 completions for 493 yards. He also matched his career-best five touchdown effort and set the school record with 61 pass attempts.
