Democrats object to foundation ad campaign

Lawyers for the Democratic National Campaign Committee filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service that a conservative foundation has crossed over into politics in violation of its tax exempt status.

The complaint charges that the Americans for Prosperity Foundation has been running commercials in Missouri which are inherently politcal in nature. The compalint also sites ads in Kansas and Michigan. The Foundation has launched a $1.4 million ad campaign critical of Washington spending policies. The tax code under which the Foundation operates allows voter education and get-out-the-vote efforts, but prohibits ads for or against a politician.

Hawk Point police chief dies in car crash

Hawk Point Police Chief Paul Fricke has been killed in a one-car crash while on duty.

The State Highway Patrol reports that the 37-year-old was driving sound on Highway 47 in his police cruiser when he slid off the right side of the road, over-corrected and slammed into a utility pole. The Lincoln County coroner pronounced Fricke dead at the scene.

The patrol is unsure whether he was responding to a call. Fricke also served in the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
